JPS Customers to see another decrease in bills
Jan 9

The Jamaica Public Service Company JPS says customers will pay less for electricity this month.

JPS explains that the fuel charge on customers electricity bills for this month will be the lowest in almost two years.

JPS says this is as a result of recent decreases in the cost of the fuel the utility company buys to produce electricity.

The light and power provider says the fuel and independent power producer IPP charge that will be applied to January bills is just over $8 per kilowatt hour compared to the charge of over $12 applied to bills last month.

Jps says this reduction will further translate to over all decreases of up 19% in some customers’ bills this month.

A typical customer who uses 200 kilowatt of electricity, JPS says that customer will see a decrease of about 15% in the January bill, while business customers could see decreases of between 15 and 19%.

JPS says with the most recent reduction fuel and IPP charges on electricity bills have now gone down by more than 57% since August last year.

  1. JPS is clamping down on electricity thieves. Does this mean they will now give concessions to previously loyal customers and even greater discounts to pensioners in line with what is right?
