The St Ann parish council has instituted new measures to cut losses and improve revenue collection at markets and transportation centers in the parish
Part of the new measures include a cut back in the working hours of members of staff, a cut back in the use of electricity, and an enforcement of no parking restrictions with the assistance of the police
Secretary Manager of the council Clinton Gordon told irie f-m news that both markets and the transportation centers continue to create a financial burden in the council’s operations
While he was unable to say how much money the council was losing the secretary manager said it runs into millions of dollars
He said following a recently held meeting with trade unions representing the workers it was decided that starting this month the staff of over 100 at both facilities will be put on rotation
Mr. Gordon also said that in addition to replacing all bulbs with florescent ones the St Ann parish council will be installing individual electricity meters for market vendors
