Members of the public who have been the victims of, or have been approached by extortionists, are being urged to call Operation Kingfish at 811.
Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police Glenmore Hinds says trained police officers will deal with the calls.
In a statement this afternoon, Acting DCP Hinds says persons using 811 to report any act of extortion are not required to give their names, but simply enough information for the police to start investigating the allegations.
The Acting DCP explained that it is difficult to secure convictions for the criminal act of extortion, and for this reason the police are making this appeal for information.
The Police High Command has also set an email address to which person can send information.
The address is jcfantiextortion@gmail.com to which to send any information regarding extortion.
