Professor Munroe calls for political party finance framework
Jul 28

University Professor Trevor Munroe says the time has come for Jamaica to establish the legal framework for political party financing.

This issue is increasingly becoming more significant to the country’s democracy.

Professor Munroe, a former Senator, spoke on party financing at a workshop at the Terra Nova Hotel this morning (July 28).  He says the issue has been spoken about long enough.

According to him, Jamaica needs to join the majority of countries in the world in respect of the regulation of political parties, disclosure of sources of political funding as well as other aspects of campaign finance regulations.

Meanwhile, the Director of election observer group, Citizens Action for Free and Fair Elections (CAFFE), Attorney at Law Nancy Anderson says there is no visible system of sustained funding for any of the political parties
