The service for Winston, who is the father of radio DJ Kurt Riley, will be held at Kingston's Holy Trinity Cathedral on North Street, beginning at 1:00 pm.

Winston Riley who died at hospital on January 19, was in a coma after he was shot in the head and arm in November last year (01.11.11). 
Winston was plagued with a series of violent attacks. In August last year he was shot and later stabbed 5 times in September. 
Winston Riley produced General Echo's hugely influential The Slackest album in 1979, and he went on to launch the careers of Sister Nancy, Buju Banton, Cutty Ranks, Lone Ranger and Frankie Paul.</description>  <guid>http://iriefm.net/index.php/home/ebuzz/8734</guid>    </item>    <item>    <title>TARRUS RILEY RETURNS WITH FREEDOM WRITER COMPETITION  (Feb 03 2012)</title>    <link>http://iriefm.net/index.php/home/ebuzz/8748</link>    <description>International reggae artiste Tarrus Riley has once again joined forces with radio station Irie FM to present the Tarrus Riley/Irie FM Freedom Writer competition.
The competition seeks to unearth the creativity of teenagers and their knowledge about Black History.
Tarrus Riley tells Music News that the feedback and response from the competition last year was overwhelming hence the decision to make it an annual one.
The competition is open to students between the ages of 12 and 17 years old. They are required to write a poem or essay no more than 200 words and explain why black history is important and relevant to them.
Entries must be creative, original, and dynamic and can be emailed to trileyfreedomwriter@iriefm.net Entries can also be dropped off at Irie FM Kingston or Ocho Rios offices.
The deadline for entries is February 29.
First prize is an I Pad and second prize is a book voucher valued at $20,000. The newly appointed State Minister for Tourism and Entertainment explained that some of the plans to enhance the reggae industry include the introduction of a registry of entertainers to send to foreign embassies in various countries, provide training and expose the entertainers to FAM trips with travel agents across the globe.

Errol Scorcher died at the Spanish Town Hospital, St Catherine, on Thursday, January 19 from a ruptured blood vessel in his head. He was 55 years old.

The festivities which began on Sunday January 29 with a tribute to Dennis Brown on Orange Street will run until the end of this month. 
Reggae Month 2012 will feature at least one event per day. Weekly Events include programmes produced by JaRIA at the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts which highlight the social backdrop and the genres of reggae. A series of five live concerts featuring Maroon Drumming, Gospel, Folk, Mento, Jazz and Classical; Ska and Rocksteady; Reggae, Rockers, Dub and Dub Poetry; Dancehall and Alternative are also planned.
The Emancipation Park comes alive later this evening with Classical, Jazz, Mento and Ska Music.
Reggae Month is under the theme, Reggae 50: Jamaica's Heart and Soul. The entire festival is geared towards celebrating 50 years of Jamaica's independence, and also, 50 years of modern Jamaican musical expressions.

Ele is charged with the rape and sexual assault of a 31-year-old woman. Police say the incident happened at his St Andrew home.
Elephant Man is expected to return to court for a preliminary hearing on May 21. The deejay was arrested on Monday.

The jailed dancehall deejay, who appeared in the Half Way Tree RM Court this morning, is to return to court on May 8 to answer to charges of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice and attempting to pervert the course of justice. 
Pim Pim and Vanessa Bling who are both jointly charged along with Kartel are also to go on trial on May 8.
It is alleged that on October 29, Gaza Slim also known as Vanessa Bling went to the police to report that she had been robbed by Clive 'Lizard' Williams, the man who Vybz Kartel is accused of conspiring to murder in a separate case. 
Meanwhile the charge of ganja possession will see Vybz Kartel in court on February 13.

He was one of the pioneers in the lovers rock style of reggae and with 78 albums to his name, was one of the most prolific names in the business. 
Honoured with the title "Crown Prince of Reggae" by the great Bob Marley, brown was regarded by many as reggae's greatest singer after Marley.
A free concert celebrating the life and legacy of Dennis Brown was held on Sunday downtown Kingston. Chairman of the Dennis Emanuel Brown trust Junior Lincoln says activities continue around the world.

The money was raised through the Shaggy and Friends Concert was held on the lawns of Jamaica House, on January 7. 
This year, the proceeds from the concert will help to furnish the new cardiac wing at the hospital, in partnership with, Chain of Hope Jamaica. 
Chain of Hope is a group of volunteer doctors and nurses, who perform surgeries each year, on children with heart problems.   
To date, the Shaggy Make A Difference Foundation has raised $90 million for the hospital. 
The entertainer's involvement with the Bustamante Hospital dates back to 2001, when on visiting a friend's son, who had been admitted there, he was moved by the needs of the institution.</description>  <guid>http://iriefm.net/index.php/home/ebuzz/8713</guid>    </item>  </channel></rss>
