Local police have asked overseas law enforcers to help them apprehend detective sergeant Micheal Sirjue.

He is to be charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice and uttering forged documents, based on a ruling by the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The police high command says the two charges point to the appearance of fabrication of evidence by Detective Sergeant Michael Sirjue, which unfairly implicated the accused persons in a case before the home circuit court.

The policeman was the lead investigator in a case of multiple murder.

A statement from Police Commissioner Owen Ellington says he received instructions from the DPP yesterday for the charges to be proffered against Detective Sergeant Sirjue.

The commissioner says it was immediately ordered that the detective sergeant be found and placed in custody for him to answer the charges.

The police say the search for Detective Sergeant Sirjue included checks at all ports of exit.

These checks revealed that the cop had already fled the country.

Against this background, the police say they immediately contacted their overseas partners and have furnished the requisite documents to assist in the apprehension of the detective sergeant.
The statement from Commissioner Ellington says this case bears strong similarity to that of a former policeman – Carey Lyn-Sue - who admitted to the Montego Bay Resident Magistrates Court in January 2008 that he fabricated evidence to convict an individual charged with murder.

The statement also notes that Detective Sergeant Sirjue worked at the Montego Bay C.I.B where he, at some stage, supervised Lyn-Sue.

At the time of the Lyn-Sue matter, the JCF carried out a thorough investigation of the case files prepared by Lyn-Sue and found that no other case was concluded on the basis of fabricated evidence.

Stone Crusher gang members freed (Feb 03 2012)

The court has thrown out the murder case against reputed gangster Eldon Calvert and his two co-accused.

The case was dismissed arising from charges to be brought against Detective Sergeant Michael Sirjue after he allegedly concocted evidence against Calvert.

Eldon Calvert, the former leader of the Stone Crusher gang had been jointly charged with his brother Gleason Calvert as well as Orette Grant and Michael Herron for the September 2006 killing of Robert Green.

Gleason Calvert was today freed, as there was no other charge against him.

However, Eldon Calvert and Herron are facing charges in relation to other murders.

In the meantime, the Director of Public Prosecutions Paula Llewlyn says the prosecution of the case was based solely on an eyewitness statement.

The witness was murdered in November 2006 and his statement tendered into evidence.

A statement from the office of the DPP says although the accused men objected to the written evidence being tendered on the basis that it was not authentic, there was no indication on the face of the file, of any irregularity.

The DPP says in the future when a case comes before the court and the witness cannot be found or has died, forensic handwriting experts will examine the signatures on the statements for the deceased or absent witnesses.

The handwriting experts for the defense and the prosecution both concluded that the signature and body of the witness statement belonged allegedly to policeman Michael Sirjue.

The court has said this is a very sad day in the history of justice for this to have happened.

Vybz Kartel preliminary hearing postponed (Feb 03 2012)

Dancehall entertainer Vybz Kartel will have to wait another two weeks to stand trial in relation to the murder of businessman Barrington “Bossie” Burton.
