Jun 29

A  number  of  significant  changes  are  in the  pipeline  for  this  years  rural  area  DaCosta  Cup  schoolboy  football  competition.

These  will  be  finalized  on  Thursday  at  the  final  planning  meeting  at  Manchester  High  School .

A  total  of  73  teams  are  expected  to  participate  this  year  far  less  than  the  over  80  which  took  part  last  year - the  likes  of  Holmwood  Technical, Tacky, Balaclava  and  Oracabessa  are  among  the  schools  who  will  be  missing  this  year.

Newell, Irwin and  Knockalva  are  also  out  while  Alston  will  be  back.

Changes  in the  zones  are  expected  to  be  among  the  significant  changes. Indications  are  that  perennial  Zone  A  participants  Herbert  Morrison  will  move  to  Zone  B  where  they  will  play  alongside  many  time  champions  Rusea’s and  2003  winners  Frome  Technical. There  will  no longer be sub  zones in  the  form  of   Zone I-1  and  Zone l-2, with  St. Thomas teams  now  making  up  Zone  l

Indications  are  that  Annotto  Bay  will  play  in  Zone  K  with  the  Portland  teams.

This year’s competition gets underway on September 11.
