World champs Spain climb to no.1 in FIFA rankings

Newly  crowned  World  champions  Spain  are  once  again  the  number  one  ranked  team  in  the  world.

Their 1-0 triumph over the Netherlands in the World Cup final on Sunday in Johannesburg saw them securing the no.1 spot for the third time knocking off five times champions Brazil in the process.

The Brazilians fall to third, while beaten World Cup finalists the Netherlands climbed from 4th to 2nd.

Following the World Cup finals there are a number of big movers this month.

Chile climbed 8 places to number  10,  African Nation Cup  champions  Egypt  who  missed  the  World  Cup  moved  up  3  places  to  number  9  and  World  Cup  4th  place  team Uruguay surged 10 places to number 6.

Germany who finished 3rd moved up  two  places  to  number  four  with  Argentina  at  number  5.

Meanwhile  Jamaica  slipped  two  places  and  is  now  ranked  83rd, while  Trinidad  and  Tobago  returned  to  being  the  number  one  ranked  Caribbean  team  climbing  19  places  to  76.

There were mixed fortunes for the African teams with hosts South Africa jumping 17 spots to 66th, Ghana remaining no. 23.
