Costa Ricans to arrive a day before match against Jamaica

The Costa Rican men’s national football team will arrive in the island on September 4 - a day ahead of their friendly international against Jamaica’s Reggae Boys at the National Stadium.

The 20 man squad comprises 12 local and 10 overseas based players, many of whom play alongside members of the Jamaican team at their respective clubs.

Both teams have met a total of 19 times with the Costa Ricans winning on 10 occasions, with the last meeting taking place at the 2009 Gold Cup where a lone strike by Celso Borges sealed the outcome.

The Ticos before their match against Jamaica will take on Panama in Panama City on September 3.

The new look Jamaican team in the meantime team has not lost at home since June 2007.

A total of 11 overseas based players including the likes of Donovan Ricketts, Lovell Palmer, Dane Richards and Luton Shelton have been included in the team by coach Theodore ‘Tappa’ Whitmore.

The Reggae Boys following the game against Costa Rica will fly to Fort Lauderdale two days later where they will face South American opponents Peru

The games are being used as preparations for the upcoming Digicel Caribbean Cup, the 2011 Gold Cup, and the 2014 World Cup.
