Village United top of table while champs Harbour View suffer shock loss

Tivoli Gardens courtesy of a Dane Kelly brace beat newcomers Benfica 2-1 to get their campaign off to a winning start in the JFF/PLCA National under 21 football league.

Kelly netted in the 18th and 35th minutes to give the former champions a 2-0 lead while Shavar Brown scored in the 54th for  Benfica who played the entire 2nd half with 10 players after Kevin Rattigan was sent off.

Elsewhere defending champions Harbour View suffered a shock 3-2 defeat to Humble Lion, while Nicholi Barrett, Deano Williams and Jerome Ecclestone were on target for Village United who moved to the top of the table on goal difference with a 3-0 win over Arnett Gardens.

In other games, Richard Smith netted twice to lead Portmore United to a 2-1 win over Reno, Sporting Central Academy had a come from behind 2-1 win over Waterhouse, while Boys Town and St. Georges played to a 1-1 draw.
