Sep 8

Jamaica’s Reggae Boys on Tuesday suffered a 2-1 defeat to South American side Peru in their friendly international match at the Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale.

The Reggae Boys playing their second game in three days fell behind from as early of the 4th minute through a Demar Philips own goal but Omar Cummings leveled things for Jamaica in the 30th minute with  a  stunning  effort   from  25  yards  out   as both teams took the break at 1-1.

Peru ranked 43 places above Jamaica in the World rankings however found the clincher in the 84th minute courtesy of substitute Jose Carlos Fernandez.

Meanwhile  the  game  got  off  to  a  late  start  and  in  fact  could  also  have  been  abandoned as  the  promoters  failed   to  carry  through  their  obligation  of  making  final  payment  on the USD $40,000 match  fee.

JFF  President  Captain  Horace  Burrell  after  threatening  to  withdraw  the  team  from  the  game  received  the  payment  through  head  of  delegation  Danny  Beckford  20  minutes  into  the  first  half  of  the  game.

The Reggae Boys next assignment is against Caribbean rivals Trinidad and Tobago at the office on October 10.
