DPP recommends 17 cases for prosecution of cops

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) has recommended 17 cases for prosecution of police personnel for the first three months of the year.

The Office of the DPP this afternoon (April 17) released the first-ever quarterly report on files received and rulings made.

The report coincides with the launch of the Office of the DPP's website: www.dpp.gov.jm

For the January to March quarter of this year, 50 files on police personnel were sent to the DPP for a ruling, while there were 62 rulings handed down.

Of that number, 17 were recommended for criminal prosecution, 10 for departmental action, while 16 files were sent for a Coroner’s Inquest

No criminal charges or departmental action was recommended in the remaining 19 cases.

A breakdown of the origin of the files show that the Inspectorate of the Constabulary sent 13 files to the DPP, 9 were from the Anti-Corruption Branch and 6 from the Bureau of Special Investigations.

Additionally, 4 came from the Criminal Investigation Branch, 2 from Indecom, while 16 came from other police bodies.

About IRIE FM

The station officially went on air on August 1, 1990. Reggae in the morning, Reggae in the evening, Reggae in the night was the cry. Critics said it was impossible to sustain a 24-hour Reggae music station. In fact, so strong was the impact, it proved that this format was something the Jamaican public yearned for. The 'little station that could' got all media houses in Jamaica to stand up and take note.
