Elderly woman shot, her house firebombed

An elderly woman was shot and wounded at her home, which was later firebombed by gunmen at Feather Bed Lane in Spanish Town, St. Catherine this morning (July 28).

Police say the incident took place just before 4 o'clock.
Reports are that the woman, who is said to be in her 60's, was at home with three other relatives, when gunmen gained entry to the three bedroom apartment through the back door.

They reportedly fired several shots hitting the elderly woman.

The house was then set ablaze.

Police say initial investigations have revealed that the elderly woman was not the main target.

She has been admitted in hospital for treatment.

In the meantime, two units from the Spanish Two Fire Department conducted cooling down operations.

The Spanish Town police are investigating.
