Money seized from crime to be used to fight criminal activities

Minister of National Security Peter Bunting has indicated, that he wants 60 % of funds seized from crime, to go back into fighting criminal activities, as a part of the government’s strategic response mechanism.

The minister was speaking at the Special Constabulary Force Association's 28th annual conference in Ocho Rios on Thursday.

Minister Bunting said the minister of finance has already agreed to at least 50 %, but he is hoping for 60.

He said the move is part of targeted strategic responses, such as the major organized crime and anti-corruption, MOCA, task force to target profits in crime.

Sharing Minister Bunting’s sentiments, minister of finance and the public service, Dr. Peter Phillips reaffirmed his commitment to this initiative.

Minister Phillips further stated that creative means have to be employed to meet the limited resources gap.
