National Stadium to become Golden Jubilee Village
The National Stadium and its environs will be transformed into the Golden Jubilee Village as of next Wednesday, for six days, ending on Independence Day.
This was one of the details announced yesterday (July 27) as the Jamaica 50 Secretariat gave details of the celebrations climaxing the 50th Anniversary of the country's independence.
Event Coordinator, Lisa O'Glivie spoke on the logistics of the event, stating that over 150,000 people are expected to be at the Golden Jubilee Village, Independence Park Complex, around the stadium, daily.
The events will begin from 12 noon and end at 1 a.m. daily and will run from Emancipation Day, August 1 to August 5.
The Golden Jubilee Village will boast Golden Jubilee Explosion, Grand Independence Market, Children’s Village, Arts and Craft Village, Parish Square, food courts and the big stage.
On the 6th of August, the day of the Grand Gala, the gates of the National Stadium will open at 3 p.m. with the pre-show at 4 p.m. and the main show at 6 p.m.
The organizers of the celebrations are encouraging patrons to various events not to attempt to drive their vehicles to the stadium complex.
That’s because the car parks will be part of the areas used to house the village.
Park and ride shuttles will be available throughout the duration of the event.
The Secretariat says Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) shuttles operating with frequencies of 10 to 20 minutes, will be available from Jamaica House, Kings House, and Up Park Camp.
Details of the shuttle can be obtained from the JUTC. The Secretariat is warning that there will be aggressive towing of illegally parked vehicles.
