No clear date for resumption of Spruce Up Ocho Rios project
The President of the St. Ann Chamber of Commerce says he will seek an update from the Tourism Ministry on the status of the stalled Ocho Rios spruce up project.
Responding to queries from Irie FM News, Kumar Sujanani, says two meetings have been held since the suspension of the clean up project.
However, he says since that time, the Chamber has not been informed about what will happen next.
Tourism Minister Dr. Wyheham McNeill had placed the $80 m project on hold in February, to facilitate a review, after stakeholders in the resort town raised concern, about how the project was being handled by the Tourism Product Development Company (TPDCO).
Mr. Sujanani says the last meeting was held a few weeks ago with TPDCO) when the agency sought clarification on aspects of the project, that were of concern to the stakeholders.
The Chamber President says the stakeholders are still of the view, that the project should be more transparent, and that the responsible government agencies, involve the stakeholders in its undertaking.
He says he will contact the Tourism Minister soon to discuss the matter.
