No JLP central elections until November
Leader of the Opposition Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) Andrew Holness has confirmed that the party will not elect its new Central Executive, until after its conference in November.
The election of officers, which should have taken place last year, was halted initially, to facilitate preparations for the General and Local Government elections.
They were rescheduled for earlier this year.
But, the JLP opted for a second postponement of the internal polls after discovering that they would have been in breach of the party's constitution.
Mr. Holness says it would have been unconstitutional for them to have taken place so long after the last conference and so close to the other set for November.
He is now saying that the election of officers will not take place until after the upcoming conference.
The positions that will be up for grabs on the central executive are those of Chairman, Deputy Chairman, General Secretary and Deputy General Secretaries, Treasurer and Deputy Treasurer.
