Woman accused of burning her daughter with clothes iron to be tried
A 50 year old female hospital attendant, who is accused of burning her 14 year old daughter with a clothing iron is to be tried in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrates' Court on august 14.
The woman, whose name cannot be revealed, is charged with assault occasioning bodily harm and cruelty to a child.
The court was told earlier this month that the accused woman used the iron to burn the child on her neck, knee and both arms.
However, the mother, while pleading not guilty to the charges, said the child was in fact burnt with the clothing iron, but by accident.
The accused woman said that while ironing she confronted the child, who she said had stolen money and was also on the street begging.
The woman said during the process, she moved towards the child with the iron in hand and the girl was burnt.
