BARRY RECKORD DIES AT 86

Jamaican playwright Barry Reckord has died. He died in Boscobell, St Mary this morning. Barry Reckord’s first play ‘Della’ was produced at the Ward Theatre in 1953. It was again produced in England in 1958 under the title Flesh to a Tiger.

In the 1970s Reckord wrote two television dramas for the BBC: In The Beautiful Caribbean and Club Havana. He was also writing and directing plays in America.

In 1973 he received a John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship to Assist Research and Artistic Creation.

Barry Reckord was 86.

Critics said it was impossible to sustain a 24-hour Reggae music station. In fact, so strong was the impact, it proved that this format was something the Jamaican public yearned for.
