The Media Association of Jamaica (MAJ) is criticizing the prime minister for meeting with dancehall deejays Vybz Kartel and Mavado.

Chairman of the MAJ, Gary Allen, warned that those in authority should be cautious about the signals they send to the society. (CLIP)

Meanwhile, Minister of Information Daryl Vaz has agreed that the government has gotten positive and negative criticisms for meeting with the entertainers; but emphasized that the government has a right and a responsibility to intervene in anything that is spiraling out of control.

MAJ Chairman, Gary Allen, questioned the government’s ability to determine which issue is taken to a Jamaica House meeting or for a Jamaica House intervention with so much happening in the society. (CLIP)

The criticism came after Prime Minister Bruce Golding and other Cabinet Ministers met with the controversial deejays Vybz Kartel and Mavado in an attempt to reduce tension between fans of the Gaza and Gully headed by the two deejays.

About IRIE FM

The station officially went on air on August 1, 1990. Reggae in the morning, Reggae in the evening, Reggae in the night was the cry. Critics said it was impossible to sustain a 24-hour Reggae music station. In fact, so strong was the impact, it proved that this format was something the Jamaican public yearned for. The 'little station that could' got all media houses in Jamaica to stand up and take note.
