WORLDWIDE CELEBRATIONS FOR DENNIS BROWN

The late Dennis Emmanuel Brown was born this day in the year 1957. He was one of the pioneers in the lover’s rock style of reggae and with 78 albums to his name, was one of the most prolific names in the business.

Honoured with the title "Crown Prince of Reggae" by the great Bob Marley, brown was regarded by many as reggae's greatest singer after Marley.

A free concert celebrating the life and legacy of Dennis Brown was held on Sunday downtown Kingston. Chairman of the Dennis Emanuel Brown trust Junior Lincoln says activities continue around the world. 

 

Dennis Emmanuel Brown died on July 1, 1999 in Kingston, Jamaica, of a collapsed lung at the University Hospital.

The station officially went on air on August 1, 1990. Reggae in the morning, Reggae in the evening, Reggae in the night was the cry. Critics said it was impossible to sustain a 24-hour Reggae music station. In fact, so strong was the impact, it proved that this format was something the Jamaican public yearned for. The 'little station that could' got all media houses in Jamaica to stand up and take note.
