Jamaica advance to semis at Centro Basketball Championship
Jamaica’s men’s basketball team on Wednesday produced the country's best ever international placing when they qualified for the FIBA Americas Championship by beating Mexico 76-74 in their final group game at the Centro Basket Championship in Puerto Rico.
Samardo Samuels led the Jamaican charge sinking 23 points while grabbing 25 rebounds and dishing 5 assists.
He was supported by Patrick Ewing jr. 13 points 8 boards 1 assist, Dylan Howell-Ennis 13 points 4 rebounds and 4 assists, Weyinmi Rose 11 points, -3 boards and 4 assists and Jerome Jordan 8 points and 4 boards.
Rose scored with 2 seconds remaining for the narrow win which gave Jamaica a 3 and 1 record at the tournament and a place in the semi-finals.
They will face either Puerto Rico or Panama in the round of four.
