Ace Jamaican goal-shooter Romelda Aiken notched 25 goals from 31 attempts to lead defending champions Queensland Firebirds to a comfortable 63-43 win over the West Coast Fever in round 13 of the ANZ Netball Championship.

A result that sees them maintaining their hopes of advancing to the semifinals.

Aiken received help from Natalie Medhurst who had a game high 38 goals, while Caitlin Bassett had a team high 35 from 40 attempts in a losing cause for the Fever.

Queensland following the win are 6th on the table with 14 points, 2 behind four teams NSW Swifts, Melbourne Vixens, Adelaide Thunderbirds and WBP Magic with just one round remaining in the regular season.

Elsewhere, another Jamaican Carla Borrego notched 27 from 29 but was unable to prevent Adelaide from suffering a 59-42 loss to the Magic.

Borrego following Sunday’s match moved to third on the scoring table with 391 goals……10 behind Aiken who is second on 401.

Aiken however leads the league in rebounding with 46 while Borrego is 4th on 31.

Regular season action comes to an end next week with Borrego playing for Adelaide against the Canterbury Tactix, and Aiken lining up for Queensland against the WBP Magic.

About IRIE FM

The station officially went on air on August 1, 1990. Reggae in the morning, Reggae in the evening, Reggae in the night was the cry. Critics said it was impossible to sustain a 24-hour Reggae music station. In fact, so strong was the impact, it proved that this format was something the Jamaican public yearned for. The 'little station that could' got all media houses in Jamaica to stand up and take note.
