Ramnarine resigns as WIPA boss

Dinanath Ramnarine has resigned as President and CEO of the West Indies Players’ Association.

His resignation which becomes effective on Saturday was announced by the WIPA Board of Directors.

Indicating the announcement was no surprise, since he had sought to refresh and reinvigorate the organisation with new leadership, Board Secretary Andrew Richardson said Ramnarine had previously stated that 2012 would be his last year with the organisation, adding he had completed a perfect decade, and they wished to recognise he had served meritoriously over those ten years.

The colourful Ramnarine assumed the position of WIPA President in 2002.

Under his vision and leadership, WIPA has progressively advanced the cause of players and the rules of the off-field game, including pushing the West Indies Cricket Board to into a formal collective bargaining agreement with players while at the same time negotiating the single largest West Indian cricketer pay increase in history.

The Players’ Awards function was also launched and a series of regional events organised by WIPA now form part of the regional sporting calendar.

Ramnirine will be replaced by Wavell Hinds the former Jamaica and West Indies opener who will assume the Presidency until the Annual General Meeting later this year.

Another Jamaican, Michael Hall will act as the interim CEO.

The other members of the Board remain as follows: Ronnie Sarwan, Andrew Richardson, Samuel Badree, Dave Kissoon and Derik Lattibeaudiere.
