Semifinal spot looms for either Jamaica or Canada Uder 17s
An interesting mixed will be on the field of play this afternoon as Jamaica and Canada square off in their top of the table clash at the CONCACAF Finals of the FIFA Under 17 Girls World Cup Qualifying Tournament in Guatemala City.
The Jamaican team features 5 Canadian based players while the Canada team has three Jamaicans including their captain and players who have indicated interests in representing Jamaica at some point in their careers.
Georgia Bailey in for the recuperating Imani Richards is the only possible change to the starting eleven for today’s game.
That will however not be confirmed until later today.
It’s the best position a Jamaican women team has ever been in at a CONCACAF Championships since 2006, winning their opening game at the tournament and now definitely not facing a do or die situation going into their second match.
In fact today’s game against Canada is an early top of the table clash with the winner virtually becoming the first semifinalists at the tournament while the loser will get a second shot to qualify on Sunday.
Canada who are the defending champions lead the group on goal difference over Jamaica both having three points from one match played but Canada having a plus 6 goal difference while Jamaica has a plus 3.
The match is the opener of a double header starting at 3 pm Jamaica time.
The second game will see host Guatemala meeting fellow Central American side Panama at 5.30 Jamaica time in the Bottom of the table clash.
