120 dairy workers employed to UC Rusal on strike

by November 4th, 2020

One hundred and twenty dairy workers employed to UC Rusal are on strike.

The workers based at Unity Valley St. Ann and Kirkvine in Manchester walked off the job yesterday (November 3) and protested at the company’s head office.

The Union of Clerical Administrative and Supervisory Employees, UCASE says the workers are protesting over the protracted delay in their wage and fringe benefits negotiations.

UCASE President Vincent Morrison says these negotiations started in May 2018.

He explains that the last meeting held October 24 ended in deadlock.

According to the union, the company is proposing a four year agreement of four percent in years 1 and 2 and zero percent in years 3 and 4. The union is seeking a 20 percent increase in year one and 15 percent in year two in addition to fringe benefits.

Mr. Morrison says the Labour Ministry has called a meeting for 10:30 today to resolve the matter.

The workers remain off the job pending the meeting.
