21 Jamaicans evacuated from hurricane-ravaged Abaco in the Bahamas

Twenty-one Jamaicans have been rescued from the Bahamas.


The Abaco and Grand Bahama islands were devastated by hurricane Dorian which has claimed over 50 lives.


A contingent of 120 members of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) has been sent to assist in the search and rescue effort, ahead of the reinstatement of infrastructure.


Prime Minister Andrew Holness says Jamaica’s honorary consul in the Bahamas has been working to re-house displaced Jamaicans.


The Prime Minister states that there is a need for basic support for persons on the affected islands
