Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries Floyd Green is encouraging Jamaicans to support the nation’s farmers.
Mr. Green says it’s important that persons look at the way they purchase and consume products, with local farmers in mind.
The minister notes that it is in the country’s best interest to consume locally produced items.
Mr. Green, who was speaking at the launch of the ‘Say Yes to Fresh Backyard Garden’ initiative this morning (February 19), noted that one effective way of changing the nation’s consumption patterns, and eating locally produced foods, is by doing backyard gardening.
The Backyard Garden initiative aims to provide resources for residents living in urban and peri-urban areas, to allocate a small space in their backyards and communities, to promote nutrition and food security.
