There is a major police/military operation underway across several troubled communities in St. James.
Among the communities under the radar are Flanker, Norwood, Cambridge and Rose Heights.
According to an IRIE FM NEWS correspondent who is on the scene, the operations come as a direct response to the escalating murders taking place in the parish.
This week four persons were shot, one fatally in separate incidents near the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay.
In the meantime, police officers and military personnel from the Jamaica Defence Force were observed carrying out stop and search operations of motorists travelling out of the rose heights and farm heights communities.
A number of the residents have also welcomed the action by the security forces.
The operations are taking place, even as a section of the Mount Salem community is still under an extended Zone of Special Operation, ZOSO, first declared there on September 1, last year.
St. James ended 2017 with 335 murders and is rapidly moving into double figures since the start of the year.
