The British government is to compensate and formally apologise to persons of the Windrush Generation who were wrongly classified as illegal immigrants.
The Windrush Generation comprises British Caribbean citizens who migrated to the United Kingdom, UK from the Commonwealth following the second World War, and whose rights were guaranteed in the Immigration Act of 1971.
Earlier today the UK Guardian reported that the Home Secretary, Sajid Javid, announced that the government will pay up to 200 million pounds in compensation to those whose lives were negatively affected by the classification.
Following the announcement, British High Commissioner to Jamaica Asif Ahmad says while no amount of money can erase the pain, he hopes it will help in some way.
Noting that the claim period will span over 2 years, he says persons who are eligible may submit a claim via email to firstname.lastname@example.org
