Constituencies to receive $3 million each for mitigation and response efforts following heavy rains

by October 28th, 2020

The government has allocated $3 million to each constituency, to assist with mitigation and response efforts, in the wake of damage from flood rains and the potential for future impacts.

Speaking in parliament yesterday (October 27, 2020),  Prime Minister Andrew Holness stressed that the government will have to reallocate funding from various ministries to be able to respond to the immediate needs of those affected.

He also pointed out that the funding for each constituency is part of the annual Christmas work programme, which is being used to augment the overall mitigation response.

Mr. Holness explained that each constituency will be allocated $1.5 million to aid in responding to the housing needs of affected citizens.

Another $1.5 million will go towards rehabilitation grants.
