Three players on the Cuban national football team who participated in a losing friendly international match against Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz at the Montego Bay Stadium on Monday were held in detention by the Montego Bay CIB On allegations of rape.
The players are alleged to have raped an American tourist who was reportedly staying at the same hotel as the Cuban team.
It is understood an identification parade took place but the the alleged victim and her husband were unable to identify any of the detained players. The players it is also understood underwent further question while in detention, a situation that infuriated their legal representative.
When contacted JFF President Captain Horace Burrell said the issue is being handled by the police and the JFF will offer its full cooperation.
Meanwhile Senior Superintendent Steve McGregor of the Montego Bay C.I.B says the investigations are at an advanced stage.
The match between Cuba and Jamaica ended in a comfortable 3-0 win for the Reggae Boyz with Romeo Parkes, Daniel Gordon and Darren Mattocks each hitting the target.
