Digicel staff required to show proof of Covid vaccination effective next month

by September 29th, 2021

Staff of telecommunications company Digicel will have to show proof of being vaccinated against the coronavirus as of October 15.

This as part of efforts to combat the effects of the virus, on operations.

Employees who are not fully vaccinated by October 15, must produce a negative PCR test taken 72 hours before, and at their own expense, every 2 weeks.

Antigen test results will not be accepted.

Staff who cannot do the PCR test will be required to take days absent from work as unpaid leave, or they can have days taken from vacation allowance.

Employees will not be allowed to work remotely as a means of avoiding the PCR test.

Exemptions only apply to staff who can provide a medical reason, substantiated by a doctor’s report.

The company says any legal concern will be addressed on a case by case basis.

Head of Public Relations at Digicel Elon Parkinson said to date, 70% of the company’s staff in the island, are vaccinated.

He said this is the company’s contribution in helping the government achieve its national vaccination target.
