Education Ministry says no to finger-printing teachers to record attendance

by September 17th, 2019

The Government says teachers cannot be forced to provide biometric data to record school attendance.

Minister with responsibility for Education, Karl Samuda, states that word came to him that some schools are forcing teachers to use fingerprint technology to record attendance and punctuality.

He says the use of such technology has not been sanctioned by the Ministry.

The Minister states that a teacher’s job cannot be on the line for refusal to comply.

Mr. Samuda says more consultations are needed before a wholesale implementation of the system.
