The government has indicated that some revision is being done in relation to the new assessment for grade six students, even as it moves to implement the Primary Exit Profile (PEP) in September.

 

Education Minister Ruel Reid is also assuring teachers that PEP is being introduced through consultations and that they have nothing to worry about.

 

Teachers have called for PEP to be delayed, and phased in over three years, while the Grade Six Achievement Test (GSAT) is continued in the next school year.

 

Addressing teachers at their annual conference in St. James, today (August 22), Mr. Reid appealed to them to trust his judgement as the pilot of the education sector.

 

 

On Monday (August 20), Jamaica Teachers Association (JTA) President Dr. Garth Anderson said the nation’s teachers, administrators and students are not ready for the full roll out of PEP and that it still remains a mystery for teachers and students and that parents are still anxious despite several workshops.

 

Following the Education Minister’s address to teacher delegates, Dr. Anderson pointed out that there are some missing links which need to be addressed.

 

He was speaking at the 54th annual conference of the Jamaica Teachers Association, which represents more than 24,000 public school teachers.
