Singer Christopher Martin is among the entertainers and social media users congratulating Richard Currie who has been appointed leader of the sovereign State of Accompong.
Colonel Currie who hails from a long lineage of maroon leaders dating back to over 280 years, ran a campaign with a message of restoring dignity to the people of Accompong.
On Instagram, Chris Martin wrote, “Congrats to the now leader of the Sovereign State of Accompong! My Ace, My G, Chief Richie Currie followed by the hashtags Big big moves, Maroon Town, and Rent Free.”
43-year-old Richard Currie got 681 votes to unseat Ferron Williams, to become the new colonel of the Maroon in Accompong Town, St Elizabeth.
Buju Banton, Spragga Benz, and Protoje, who hails from the parish located in the southwest of the island, have also shown their support for Richard Currie.
