Some 823 bush fires were recorded across the island in June, threatening the livelihood of scores of persons including farmers.
In late June, a large bush fire in the hills of Mavis Bank, St. Andrew caused major concern for Coffee farmers, however it was brought under control by firefighters.
Residents in other parishes have also been experiencing fires or smoke from the bush fires.
Citing the current dry period as a major causal factor for the fires, Public Relations Officer at the Fire Brigade, Emilio Ebanks says the number of bush fires in June is the largest figure recorded in a single month, since 2015.
He says in effort to prevent bush fires, persons should refrain from lighting fires and should only do so for cooking purposes.
