Some fifty firefighters are battling a blaze, at the May Pen Market in Clarendon.
Public Relations Officer at the Jamaica Fire Brigade, Emilio Ebanks, told Irie Fm News, that the fire destroyed about 50 percent of the market.
He says the blaze, which started early this afternoon, has not yet been brought under control but firefighters are working to do so.
Meantime, Mr. Ebanks is urging citizens, to be cautious especially in the upcoming Christmas holiday.
He is imploring persons, whose houses were inspected over five years ago, to have a licensed electrician, conduct the necessary safety tests.
Mr. Ebanks also reiterated, that children and the elderly, must not be left alone at home.
