GCT on Lithium ion batteries used in solar energy production officially removed

The General Consumption Tax, GCT, on Lithium Ion batteries used in solar energy production has been officially removed.

This, as parliament yesterday approved a motion to add the batteries to the list of products that are GCT exempt.

In speaking on the order in the lower house yesterday (June 21), Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke, noted that the move will play a pivotal role in the transition to renewable energy.

The move was welcomed by Opposition Spokesman on Finance Julian Robinson.

Noting that the country is in an energy crisis, however, he urged the government to do more to help cushion the rising energy costs.
