People’s National Party President Mark Golding has welcomed the ruling of the Privy Council, in the Trafigura case, as an opportunity for the matter to be completed.
The Privy Council ruled today (April 19), that the information requested by the Dutch authorities from PNP officials in their investigation of Trafigura Beheer, should be given in open court.
PNP officials had opposed a ruling, to answer questions in open court, over a 31 million dollar donation in 2006, by the Dutch firm to the party.
It was the Privy Council’s finding that there was no material before the court to lead to the conclusion that a public hearing might jeopardize the investigation in the Netherlands, or any subsequent investigation or proceedings which might follow in Jamaica.
Speaking with Irie Fm News, Mr. Golding notes that the case has been going on for 15 years and its time for it to be laid to rest.
Meantime, Mr. Golding reiterates, that corruption will not be tolerated within the PNP.
