The Government will be making some 250 million dollars available for the provision of food packages for needy citizens this Christmas.
Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke noted that the bulk of the funding will be allocated to Members of Parliament.
Each MP will receive three million dollars under the initiative.
Speaking in Parliament, Dr. Clarke said the initiative is targeted at those individuals who will not be able to benefit from the Seasonal Work Programme, such as those who are senior citizens or bedridden.
The announcement was welcomed by Opposition Spokesman on Finance, Julian Robinson who urged the Minister to ensure that the food packages are made available prior to Christmas day.
