The Government will be allocating one million dollars to each member of Parliament to assist with resilience-building efforts in each constituency.
Housing Minister Pearnel Charles Jr. made the announcement in the Lower House on Tuesday (November 30).
Mr. Charles Jr. lamented that climate-related disasters have been the primary drivers of displacement, citing as an example, the impact of recent heavy rains on residents of sections of St. James.
He said the Government must prioritize resilience-building while seeking to mitigate the inevitable.
He noted that Jamaica’s housing sector is very vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.
He urged all MPs to submit the data required for the resilience projects by next year February.
