Grove Broadcasting Company, Irie FM says its happy to see the fulfillment of a promise made two years ago, to rename Gloucester Avenue in Montego Bay St James the Jimmy Cliff Boulevard.
A civic ceremony for the name change will take place at the Old Hospital Park in Montego Bay, tomorrow (March 28) at 4 pm.
Irie FM had lobbied for the naming of the road in Jimmy Cliff’s honour.
Two years ago, Mayor Homer Davis announced that Gloucester Avenue popularly called the Hip Strip would be renamed in honour of Jimmy Cliff. He made the announcement at the Lifetime Achievement Award Ceremony for Jimmy Cliff which was held at the Somerton All Age School.
Meantime Irie FM’s Programmes Director Ka’Bu Ma’at Kheru says the station is happy to see the renaming of the road become a reality.
Culture Minister Olivia Grange, says her ministry is collaborating with the Ministry of Tourism and the St. James Municipal Corporation to honour the Reggae icon.
Miss Grange says she believes this is a well-deserved honour for Jimmy Cliff and appropriate recognition of his contribution to Jamaica.
Irie FM will broadcast from the event tomorrow.
