by August 16th, 2021

A delegation from the Haiti Jamaica Society will be heading to Haiti this week to assess the level of relief support needed by the country, following the 7.2 magnitude quake that struck the nation on Saturday.

The death toll from the quake is currently at 1, 297.

President of the Society, Myrtha Desulme, says a lot of equipment and personnel will be needed on the ground to assist with the relief effort.

Miss Desulme says at this point, focus is on the rescue mission to get to persons trapped under the rubble.

While noting that several international partners have expressed intent to support Haiti at this time, Ms. Desulme says she hopes the support can be properly coordinated.

With poor weather expected to impact the nation in a few hours, Ms. Desulme says it is hoped that the conditions do not impede the recovery effort.

She is expressing gratitude to all the entities and individuals that have shown support for Haiti following the disaster.
