Health Min. concerned about doctors misdiagnosing persons who contract dengue

by October 8th, 2019

Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton has indicated that the ministry is concerned about doctors misdiagnosing persons who contract dengue.

This, he noted has led to the patients being given the wrong treatment, resulting in worsening conditions, and eventually death, as the true cause of the illness was discovered too late.

The minister made the comment in Parliament today (October 08), while responding to comments from the Opposition, after he made a brief presentation to the house on the dengue situation.

Opposition Spokesman on Health, Dr. Morais Guy, had raised concern about recent cases of children, whose deaths are linked to dengue.

One such case involves a child who died at the Percy Junor Hospital while waiting to be seen by doctors.

Dr. Tufton said he has since visited with the relatives of one of the affected children.

He stressed the importance of doctors making the correct diagnosis.
