Health Minister says no confirmed case of Covid-19 in the island

The Health and Wellness Ministry is dispelling rumours, that there are corona virus cases, in Jamaica.

Health Minister, Dr. Christopher Tufton says that there is no confirmed case of Covid19, in the island.

He notes that the ministry understands the public‘s concern, and fear associated with the virus, given the scope of the public health threat, globally.

However, he says, that the spreading of incorrect information about the virus is unhelpful, to the ministry’s response efforts.

The ministry is urging members of the public, to contact the ministry, if and when they have concerns, or wish to have anything clarified.

Close to 200 travellers have visited countries of interest in relation to the Covid 19 virus, while seeking landing rights in Jamaica.

Meantime, Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton says, there is vigilance at the nation’s ports to safeguard the health of the nation.

He was speaking during today’s (March 4) sitting of the Standing Finance Committee.

Over 50 persons were refused entry.

Dr. Tufton says there is a specific protocol that relates to allowing passengers to disembark a ship.
