Jamaica records 19 more COVID-19 deaths, 51 new cases with positivity rate down to 8.8%

For the first time in several weeks, the positivity rate for COVID-19 cases has gone below 10%.


The latest data from the Health and Wellness Ministry indicate 51 new cases and a positivity rate of 8.8%.


The 51 new cases push the case count to 86,507.


Of the new cases, 28 are females and 23 are males. They range in age from 6 to 100 years.


The data also show that 19 more persons have died from COVID-19, pushing the country’s death tally to 2,053.


The deaths occurred between July 31 and October 10.


14 of the deceased lived in Hanover, while the others are from St. Ann, St. James and Clarendon.


There were 2 other coincidental deaths, and one other death is under investigation.


415 persons are hospitalised. Of that figure, 105 are moderately ill, 51 are severely ill and 31 are critically ill.


There are 150 more recoveries, pushing total recoveries to 54,719.


There are 29,143 active cases.
