Jamaica records highest number of road deaths in 2022 at 488

Jamaica recorded its highest number of road deaths in 2022.

 

488 people were killed on the nation’s roadways, last year, 1 more than the previous record of 487 which was set in 2021.

 

the latest fatalities for 2022, occurred in Trelawny on Saturday (December 31).

 

Dead are 22-year-old Latanieann Mendez of Bounty Hall and 24-year-old Zidan Esson of Granville both in Trelawny, and 19-year-old Iration Williams of Cornwall Courts, St. James.

 

Police reports are that about 11:45 p.m., three vehicles collided, along the Flamingo main road in Trelawny.

 

Williams, Esson, Mendez and 6 other people received injuries and were taken to hospital, where Williams, Esson and Mendez were pronounced dead, and the others admitted.

 

Vice Chairman of the National Road Safety Council, Dr. Lucien Jones told Irie FM News that 3 other people who were involved in crashes earlier last year also succumbed to their injuries.
