Jamaica is to receive 50,000 doses of the Astra Zeneca vaccine by next week, a gift from India.

The announcement was made today by India’s high commissioner to Jamaica Ambassador Masakui Rungsung.

He was addressing a handing over ceremony at the health ministry today.

Meantime, Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton has expressed appreciation to the government of India for its donation of covid vaccines, valued at about US $100,000.

Speaking at ceremony today, Dr. Tufton noted that Jamaica and India have a long standing partnership, and the donation will significantly boost Jamaica’s covid response.

Today’s handing over ceremony was for the supply of another donation from India, that is medication and supplies for other health issues, such as lupus.
