Jamaicans refused boarding on flight in Panama urged to make formal reports

Foreign Affairs Minister, Senator Kamina Johnson Smith is again calling on Jamaicans who were reportedly refused boarding by KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, in Panama at the weekend, to make formal reports to the ministry.

This, as she said only two persons have made formal complaints.

There have been reports that at least 6 Jamaicans travelling to various destinations through Panama, on Saturday (August 13) were refused boarding on their connecting flights.

In providing an update on Twitter, Senator Johnson Smith noted that further to the ministry’s formal communication to the Government of Panama on Monday (August 15), the ministry met with the Panamanian Ambassador to Jamaica.

She added that her ministry has also written to KLM Royal Dutch airlines to request an investigation into the matter.

Senator Johnson Smith noted, however, that with only two persons coming forward with formal reports, the ministry is unable to pass on full details to the airline and the Panamanian government.

The Foreign Affairs Minister is urging anyone who had been refused boarding in the Panama incident to contact consular@mfaft.gov.jm.
